Best classes in XDefiant – All classes ranked

So many options, and so little time.

Ubisoft has entered the arena shooter… arena with XDefiant. Much like other arena shooters in the wild, the maps are small, matches have modes, and characters have abilities. So a lot of cool things can happen at any time. The interesting part is that the classes (or factions) are based on Ubisoft’s properties. This includes Watch Dogs, the Tom Clancy games like The Divison, Far Cry 6, and more. It somewhat makes a universe out of these characters as well. Each class plays differently and has its own abilities, which can have some interesting moments during gameplay. Since all classes are quite distinct from one another, this could make some hard to play and others not so much. If you need help picking a faction, this list will show you the all best classes in XDefiant, ranked.

XDefiant: Best classes ranked

At the time of writing this list, there are five classes. Each of them falls into different categories.

They are:

  • Libertad
  • Cleaner
  • Phantom
  • Echelon
  • DedSec

To give you an in-depth description of each class, read the below. Also note, when reading this list, it goes from worst to best.

DedSec: Based on the Watch Dogs 2 hacking group, their abilities are for players who want to annoy the enemy. While not an offensive class, you may still have some fun with them. You can disable the enemy team’s HUD or stun them with your spider bot. You can basically be a nuisance. But if the enemy team finds you in the open and alone — you won’t have much to counter with. Which renders them harder to play and puts them at the top of the list.

Echelon: If you enjoy going behind enemy lines and hiding out of the site, this class could be for you. It has a slightly easier playstyle than DedSec, in that you can fight back in case things go south. Having the Sonar Goggles gives you the good ol’ Third Echelon 5.7 pistol, which does some massive damage upon revealing an enemy. On top of that, it’s a popular class mainly because it keeps you quiet and can reveal the whole enemy team to your teammates. Echelon can make the match one-sided if they wanted to.

Phantom: This faction was the first one I used. It’s a rather balanced class but does have certain weaknesses that put it in the middle of this list. For starters, Phantoms are built to take on a lot of damage and to hold down a position. Second, you can get two shields: one allows you and other teammates to shoot through it, and the other ballistic shield covers just you. Paring this class with the deadly RPK-74 LMG can make you unstoppable because the class has heightened health. However, their cooldown time for some life-saving abilities is fairly long.

Cleaner: The fire-based character from The Divison has made a home in my heart. They are the main assault class and can help the Phantoms control a point. Cleaners are rather important (biases aside) because of their Firebombs and Incendiary Rounds. When things get too hot, this class can offer that breathing room that will push enemies away.

Libertad: Out of all the classes in XDefiant and the ones on this ranked list, Libertad is both important and essential. This comes down to them being the primary healers. All the abilities are for healing both you and your entire team. If you’re running beside someone who’s playing the Libertad class, you will be healing slowly over time. Having at least one on your team can make things easier. If no one selects this class, try playing it, you may have a better time.
