Dave Arneson, co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, has passed away aged 61.Dave Arneson was the man who initially adapted the rulesets for army battles into personal combat rules, basically co-creating the RPG idea of each player having control of only one character, and developed what was pretty much the first published campaign setting in a game in the second D&D supplement, titled Blackmoor.Arneson was a key man in terms of developing the RPG as we know it today, and pretty much every RPG you’d care to think of can link back in some way to the work of this man and the recently deceased Gary Gygax.Dave Arneson passed away just after 11pm on Tuesday, 7 April 2009, and our sympathies go out to the family. His contributions to our hobbies, and the creation and evolution of the genre, will not be forgotten. Thanks to Kotaku for this.
