Dedicated multiplayer servers come to Euro and American Truck Simulator

Control the road.

It’s been a while since Convoy mode came to American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2. Now, SCS Software is enhancing the multiplayer experience. Brought on by high user demand, this new feature will provide more flexibility with conducting a multiplayer session via dedicated servers in either American Truck Simulator or Euro Truck Simulator 2.

As SCS outlines in its official blog post about the feature rollout, the ability for players to host dedicated servers will allow them to leave the server running continuously, regardless of whether anyone’s online. This turns the experience into a routine of ‘hop-on/hop-off,’ so to speak, as players can join in and the leave at their leisure.

Interestingly enough, there’s basically no prerequisites for hosing a dedicated server. You don’t even have to own any of the games (or any of their DLCs). The dedicated servers can also be hosted outside of Steam on a separate device, if needed. Players can host them “with no user interface on a rented or paid-for server that a hosting company owns.”

The real server geeks out there will also be happy to know that the server tool can be obtained via the Steam Console Client. Doing so allows you to “install and update various dedicated servers available on Steam using a command-line interface.”

Before long, there will likely be an array of multiplayer dedicated servers for American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2. There’s also the ability to host multiple instances. And, just like a real trucking company, you can practically appoint ‘managers.’ Any player added to the Known Player List of a server is granted admin controls.

All of the nitty-gritty details are available on the official post on SCS’ blog.
