Destiny 2 player discovers this slept-on Exotic rips through Tormentors in seconds

An unlikely Exotic powerhouse.

Tormentors are the bain of every fireteam’s existence in Onslaught. Even if you know what to do, there’s no guarantee your buddies will. Fortunately, there’s an Exotic weapon so powerful you might just be able to deal with the problem solo.

How to quickly beat Tormentors in Destiny 2

You can always depend on the Destiny 2 community to find weird and wonderful ways to solve problems. Reddit user u/5nackbar reports that the Forerunner Exotic Sidearm makes short work of Onslaught’s most terrifying foes.

We already reported on the Tormentor’s unhealthy obsession with Decoys and how to use that to your advantage. The issue is you usually can’t communicate this to your teammates, and they can cost you the game without even knowing it.

The Forerunner is incredible at dispatching Tormentors thanks to its Exotic trait. Full Stop makes the Forerunner deal bonus precision damage to unshielded targets. The Tormentor may be a slog to take down, but it doesn’t have a shield. 5nackbar reports that they can break each shoulder pad in two shots, and chest shots do upwards of 30k damage.

The Forerunner isn’t the only decent weapon for Tormentors, but it is one of the most accessible. I have had great success with the Leviathan’s Breath Exotic Bow, as its exotic perk stuns unshielded opponents. You can even stun-lock Tormentors with the Tractor Cannon.

There are several good weapons for dealing with Tormentors; you just need to think outside the box. I love using the Edge Transit God Roll to make quick work of them.

How to get the Forerunner Exotic Sidearm in Destiny 2

Now I’ve sold you the Forerunner, let me explain how to get it. The Forerunner is the reward for completing the Exotic Questline, Magnum Opus. You can collect this quest from Xur at his Treasure Hoard in Eternity. Eternity and its weapons are locked behind the 30th Anniversary Pack DLC.

Once you have the quest, it’s pretty easy to complete. Here are the steps:

  • Collect the quest from Xur
  • Complete 3 Star Horse Bounties
  • Reach Rank 4 with Xur
  • Return to the Starhorse
  • Use the Strange Key
  • Return to Banshee-44 (Gunsmith) in the Tower

Most of these quest steps are pretty straightforward. You can purchase bounties from the Starhorse with Strange Coins from the Dares of Eternity. You’ll also gain standing with Xur by completing his bounties in the same activity.

Key Location

To use the Strange Key, you must find where it goes on the Dares of Eternity map. It’s right by the first arena among the rocks in the picture above. When you hand in the quest to Banshee-44, you’ll be given the Forerunner, which is deadly right out of the box.

The Forerunner is a powerful Exotic, but has niche uses and you’ll probably want to swap it when you’re not battling Tormentors. Most of the best weapons in the game are Exotic, so make sure you bring a decent arsenal with you to challenging content like Onslaught.
