Diablo 4: Elemental Resistances highlights many requested reworked features

Better late than never

Diablo 4 has had a rocky start with its premiere Season, the Season of the Malignant. Unpopular balance changes prompted an emergency “Campfire Chat” with the developers. Although this quelled many of the community’s frustrations, there’s still more to be done. Thanks to several accounts on Social Media, we have an idea of what’s coming next.

Diablo 4: Elemental Resistances highlights many requested reworked features

Two of the most requested features for Diablo 4 are a rework to Elemental Resistances and a Loot Filter. It seems we may see these sooner rather than later. At the time of writing, Elemental Resistances are almost completely meaningless in Diablo 4. It would be nice to see that changed.

When asked on Twitter about a Loot Filter, Rod Fergusson, who oversees Diablo 4’s development, responded with, “Definitely part of our backlog” There’s no time frame, but it’s good to know it’s being discussed.

Another incoming change concerns Elemental Resistances. We don’t know what’s happening with the system, but Global Community Development Director Adam Fletcher responded with “S2 has the rework” when questioned. There’s no set date for Season 2, but either way, we won’t have to wait long.

We’ve seen these features before

We don’t know what these mechanics will look like in Diablo 4, but we can look at other ARPGs for clues. Path of Exile is a massively popular ARPG, and Elemental Resistances are an important part of character building. In fact, you’re expected to be “resistance capped” in Path of Exile if you don’t want to die in a split second. I doubt Elemental Resistances will be as essential in Diablo 4, but I expect they will have a greater influence on survivability.

Path of Exile also has Loot Filters, allowing users to choose what Loot appears on the map. The Loot that drops is the same regardless, but a filter enables players to hide specific items. In Diablo 4, it would be nice to hide drops like Chipped Gems and low-rarity gear. With limited inventory space, I only pick up specific equipment, and I know I’m not alone in that.

Players have expressed frustrations and concerns about Diablo 4 since its release. The lack of dates for these features is disappointing, but hopefully, we won’t have to wait long. If you’re a new player and are hunting for rare loot, check out our guide on farming Legendaries and Uniques.
