Does Assassin’s Creed: Mirage have Denuvo?

Can't imagine a consumer-friendly company like Ubisoft doing such a thing.

There is nothing more annoying for gamers who have purchased the newest release than when it doesn’t perform to acceptable standards. Even when their PC fulfills the recommended requirements. The source of these problems is often Denuvo, a controversial DRM software in the gaming sphere. Some developers like Ubisoft choose to implement Denuvo Anti-Tampering technology, risking players suffering from a bad gameplay experience, while others do not and hope that sales will outperform piracy. Today, we’re going to dive deep into Ubisoft’s 2023 offering, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, to find out whether the game will come with Denuvo or not.

Will Assassin’s Creed: Mirage have Denuvo?

Unfortunately, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage will have Denuvo. Not only that, but it will also come with VMProtect DRM and require Ubisoft Connect installed. This has been confirmed by PCGamingWiki and concurs with Ubisoft’s past practices. If you’re wondering what VMProtect DRM is, it’s yet another DRM software that some games use in addition to their existing copyright protection, and Ubisoft has built it into all of their games since 2014.

Ubisoft also maintains and implements its own DRM into games by way of Ubisoft Connect, which is required to run before launching any Ubisoft game even if the game was purchased on another storefront like Epic Games Store. This triple whammy means that it’s likely Assassin’s Creed: Mirage won’t be cracked on release. The important issue, however, is how the game will perform for those who bought a legitimate copy and have to deal with Denuvo.

Why players hate Denuvo

Denuvo Anti-Tamper is notorious for affecting game performance. It is a digital rights management system touted as the best way of protecting digital content from being cracked so that pirates cannot receive it for free. It’s also known to be the hardest DRM software to crack. Denuvo has been criticized for high CPU usage and excessive writing operations on storage components, as well as reducing framerates during gameplay. While Denuvo denies these claims, multiple YouTube reviewers and even game directors themselves have come forward to say that a game without Denuvo performs better than the same game with DRM software.

We’ll just have to wait and see how Mirage performs with so much DRM software included, but in the meantime, you might want to check out our other Assassin’s Creed: Mirage articles.
