Dragon’s Dogma 2 NPCs can permanently die if you’re not careful

Protect the ones you love.

Capcom is taking this RPG to the next level with NPC perma-death. Dragon’s Dogma 2 NPCs can die permanently if you’re not careful enough. The lives of the characters around you seem to matter in this game.

Capcom activated perma-death for Dragon’s Dogma 2 NPCs

In an interview with Automaton, the director of Dragon’s Dogma 2, Hideaki Itsuno, revealed that there are a plethora of unique NPCs in the world, but their lives aren’t trivial. Itsuno explained that they wanted to create a “fantasy world simulator,” so NPCs dying would feel like a natural occurrence.

He continued to say that since perma-death is a thing, you’ll start to care for town NPCs and feel the need to fight and protect them during a town raid. You can even hold them and run away.

Dragon’s Dogma 2’s producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi popped in to say that there is still a way to resurrect beloved NPCs. If you get an item like a Wakestone, you’ll be able to resurrect characters. Even if we’re able to use resurrection items, the idea that NPCs you care for can permanently die if you’re not careful in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is nerve-wracking to think about.

You’ll be able to grow relationships with NPCs in various ways, such as gaining Affinity with them. This is the term for the relationship system in DD2. Itsuno also said in the interview that you can use Affinity with NPCs just through the nature of their relationship with someone else. As an example, he said this: “If you raise your Affinity with the parent of a child, your Affinity with the child will increase as well.”

There are even situations where NPCs can have falling outs with each other, so perhaps that could affect your Affinity with them as well. The lives of NPCs in DD2 are just as important as you and your Pawns’ lives, so take good care of them. Or maybe not, perhaps you want to play an evil character.

If you do like to play the hero, you’ll have plenty of Pawns and NPCs to connect with, but what about real-life players? I’ve also wondered whether or not Dragon’s Dogma 2 has multiplayer co-op.
