Elite Dangerous Beyond – Chapter 1 launching next week

With testing now complete, Frontier is almost ready to launch Elite Dangerous Beyond – Chapter 1.

This update is the first large update for 2018 and kicks off Season 3. The main updates include the crime and punishment rework which Frontier hopes will make it fairer and more competitive. The other main addition is the excellent GalNet audio which brings full audio to the news network this really helps bring the universe to life.

Other improvements include new trade data overlay to help find the best deals, changes to the engineering mechanics which ensure a guaranteed improvement when crafting, the overhaul of the mission rewards system, and the introduction of a new combat ship, The Chieftain.

All of this will be available on 27 February so mark those diaries.

The other main addition is the excellent GalNet audio which brings full audio to the news network this really helps bring the universe to life.

Unfortunately all it does is transforms a text to an audio form. To bring universe to life the game would need much improved AI, interactive NPCs, interaction between players and NPCs, etc.
It is nice to get improvements for free but the game stays still very grindy and “dead” in many ways.

I think the GalNet audio is really good and does make a difference while playing, but yes, there are areas of the game that could be improved for sure.

GalNet audio is an good addition but I personally think it is still very minor feature as whole. It would be interesting to hear if they have some features in work which would bring NPCs in life. At the moment they are just procedurally generated faces without any soul or story behind them. That’s a bit problem everything in the game at the moment which makes it feel very lifeless. Very bare bone game mechanisms doesn’t help either.

I still have some hope for the game but I wonder if Frontier is already looking forward to make another Elite game instead of making big changes to Elite Dangerous.
