Now looking even more realistic thanks to HAIRWORKS.

Ubisoft’s love affair with Nvidia continues, with the latest Far Cry 4 trailer talking about all the beautiful effects made possible if you have an Nvidia card.

As with Assassin’s Creed Unity, Far Cry 4 will apparently look even more stunning if you’re running it with the help of Nvidia. This video explains and displays the ways that PCSS, HBAO+, TXAA, god rays, and the amazingly named “Hairworks” will make it look better. In short: PCSS is for better soft shadows and shadow anti-aliasing, HBAO+ offers more realistic shadows, TXAA gives smoother images, god rays are those big prominent shafts of light, and Hairworks ensures that things like yak hair and tiger fur will look and move realistically.

So yeah, I’m assuming that “Hairworks” is sort of like TressFX, only with an even sillier name.

If you’re not on an Nvidia card then fear not, as Far Cry 4 should look pretty stunning anyway. Indeed, I wouldn’t necessarily have noticed the differences between PCSS on and off if it weren’t for the big slider highlighting them. Still! It all looks rather lovely.

Far Cry 4 is due out on 18 November.
