How NPCs work in Fortnite

Just so we’re all on the same page, let me quickly explain what NPCs are in Fortnite and what they do. NPCs are computer-controlled characters that you can interact with. Most NPCs will sell you guns or equipment if you talk to them. Some NPCs can be hired and are excellent in team fights as they give your opponents one more target to worry about.

You can also ‘Duel’ a few NPCs by selecting the option from their conversation window. If you beat the NPC in a fight, you’ll win a gun for your troubles.

Keep in mind that if you shoot an NPC, they will immediately become hostile to you and your team. If you’re fighting near one, you can use this to your advantage and get your opponents to hit the NPC.

Who are the best NPCs in Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 2?

Skye

Any hireable NPCs are great, as they add chaos to team fights. I’m a big fan of Brutus this season as he sells the Frenzy Auto Shotgun.

This weapon was outstanding last season and is still arguably the best close-range choice in the game. It’s even better if you mod it with a drum mag, which increases the magazine size from 8 to 12.

Marigold and Skye sell the Icarus Wings, which are a superb mobility tool and well worth the price if you don’t have them.

Finally, Hope and Myna sell the Reaper Sniper Rifle, the best long-range weapon in the game. The Sniper Rifle is the only gun that can kill in a single bullet and is unbeatable if you can land your shots.

The NPCs in this guide aren’t aggressive unless you shoot them, but the same can’t be said for the bosses. You may want to stay clear of those unless you’re ready for a fight.
