GOG sale celebrates Canada Day and Fourth of July

Games, burgers, and donuts.

If you haven’t splurged enough money on the 2019 Steam Summer Sale, here’s another opportunity to add more games to your ever-growing backlog. GOG is having a sale to celebrate games made with passion in Canada and the US. The sale ties in with Canada Day and the Fourth of July holidays in North America, and it will last until July 8, 10 PM UTC. There are over 300 DRM-free titles available with up to 90% discounts, so there’s definitely something for everyone. Here are some of our top recommendations.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire (-50%) is the sequel to the 2015 original Pillars of Eternity, which was a Kickstarter hit for fans of the Infinity Engine games. While the original was much more conservative in conjuring Baldur’s Gate in atmosphere and gameplay, Deadfire was more streamlined and experimental in some ways. It includes full voice acting and even ship combat. You should definitely consider grabbing the Obsidian Edition, which includes all DLC and extras for little more than a dollar.

Darkest Dungeon (-70%) is a roguelike turn-based 2D RPG set in a Lovecraftian dark fantasy world. As the heir of a cursed family, you must descend into the Darkest Dungeon with a crew of flawed heroes. Probably the most interesting element of Darkest Dungeon is the Affliction System, where the members of your part must struggle with afflictions such as paranoia, masochism, fear, irrationality. And that definitely makes sense in a Lovecraftian world.

A bit of everything for everyone

If you’re looking for some platforming action, try Guacamelee! (-70%) and Guacamelee! 2 (-50%). If you want to remember a time when BioWare made good games, grab Dragon Age: Origins – Ultimate Edition (-75%). You can also get the entire Interplay catalog at 50% off (except Fallout and Fallout 2, whose rights now belong to Bethesda). There are literally hundreds of other games you can try, so check out GOG.com and take your pick.
