Certainty Principle is one of the mission stories in Hitman 3‘s Chongqing level. It’s where you’ll target a scientist named Imogen Royce. Here’s our guide to help you out.

Hitman 3: Chongqing – Certainty Principle and Imogen Royce assassination challenges guide
Enter the dumpling restaurant and listen to a conversation between Mr. Pritchard and Imogen Royce’s assistant. Then, go to the kitchen and take the “Dumplings Cook” disguise.
Run to the bathroom for the emetic poison and add it to Pritchard’s food as you prepare it. Ring the bell to get a waiter to serve the dish (“A Hair in my Soup”). Go take Pritchard’s attire (“Climbing the Corporate Ladder”).
After getting the P41 Form from Pritchard’s apartment, Imogen Royce’s assistant will give you a tour of the ICA Facility in Chongqing. There are two things to keep in mind:
- The keypads you come across (i.e., Pritchard’s apartment, laundromat, and container entrance to the facility) all have “0118” as their passcode.
- Try to take tier 1 and tier 2 dongles in the facility since these allow your phone to hack panels. The tier 3 dongle is dropped by Imogen Royce and her bodyguard. You may also use a screwdriver to open vents.
“Shortcut: Inner Courtyard” – IO Interactive probably got the names switched. You can unlock this shortcut from elevator shaft in the Tier 1 Security room.
Now, this next part is time-sensitive since Imogen Royce will be waiting for you. Don’t dawdle around until she’s done with her tour or she’ll get bored and the Certainty Principle mission story will fail.
Important save: Make sure to save your game once you meet Royce.
“Cooling Down” assassination challenge – While Royce is giving you a guided tour of the core, spam “X” because you’ll get a prompt to toss her off the railing. Reload your save after this tally is completed.
Important save:Â Continue with the tour until you reach Royce’s office (level -2 of the ICA Facility).
She’ll ask you to fire some of her employees.
“Medium Rare” assassination challenge and Certainty Principle completion
With the terminal opened, fire the following people in this order:
- Alicia Reynolds – Do this immediately once Royce prompts you to do so. She’ll disable the core’s safety mechanism. This completes “Human Error.”
- Jeremy Bolt – Fire him after Reynolds. He’ll end up distracting Royce’s bodyguard.
- Sharon Reed – Fire her once Reynolds is about to leave the core and Royce is about to enter it. Royce will get burned to a crisp.
Note: If you reload your save, you can try other unique assassination challenges. However, in some cases, Royce might not go to a particular spot and you’ll need to do another run for these tallies.
“A Shock to the System” and “Venting Some Stress” assassination challenges
For these two, you’ll need Imogen Royce to go to the break room (level -2). Take note of the location as seen in the map below:
To force Royce to go to the break room, you’ll need a tier 2 dongle so your camera can hack the three computers in the Analysis Area (level -2).
The analysts will leave and Royce will head to the break room to scold them.
Important save:Â Have a save handy here in case things don’t go as planned. The idea is to hack the windows so they become tinted. Then, sabotage the wiring with a screwdriver before Royce enters the break room.
She’ll rant at her employees and you should have enough time to puncture the water dispenser and move away. Watch as Royce gets electrocuted for the “Shock to the System” challenge completion. If you get discovered, just reload your save.
As for the “Venting Some Stress” assassination challenge, you need to have a poison vial. If you don’t have one yet, then you might want to reach mastery rank 10 in Hitman 3‘s Berlin level.
Assuming you do have one already, wait until Royce’s employees leave the break room. Then, go to the nearby maintenance room and put lethal poison in the ventilation system.
Finally, activate the air conditioning unit outside the break room and watch Royce suffocate. No matter Royce’s cause of death, you can pick up her tier 3 dongle to complete “Hack the Planet.”
Let’s say the other target, Hush, is already dead, it’s time for you to wipe the core’s database.
Other challenges and entering the core
“Super Special Door” – This is the emergency exit in the middle of the ICA Facility. Unfortunately, I’ve no idea how this is opened.
“Quite A Hatch” – Make your way to the Core Control Room and, instead of entering it, look for a vent in the hallway.
Open it and go to your left. Activate the mechanism to drop the hatch that leads outside.
“Killing The Past” – This one is part of Hitman 3‘s main story if it’s your first time doing the End of an Era mission. Just go to the core and wipe the database. A cutscene will follow, and the entire place will be on high alert. Flames will also erupt, but you can use the vents to make your escape.
You’ll be traversing around the ICA Facility while guards are searching for you. Stay hidden and keep calm, and you’ll find yourself staring back at Chongqing’s skyline once more.
