Hogwarts Legacy guide – How to unlock Imperio and solve Feldcroft Catacomb puzzles (In the Shadow of Time quest)

The Imperio spell in Hogwarts Legacy isn’t a mandatory requirement. In fact, you can choose not to learn it. But, before we get to that, let’s talk about what you need to do to unlock the quest:

  • In the Shadow of the Study – This nets you the Crucio curse (or you could choose not to learn it).
  • Charles Rookwood’s Trial – This basically leads to a transition to the winter season, marking the beginning of the late-game stage.
  • Fire and Vice – You’ll help Poppy retrieve a dragon egg.
  • Professor Weasley’s Assignment – This lets you learn Transformation.
  • Sebastian’s quest chain – Pay attention to your quest log because Sebastian will have some sidequests and additional conversations from time to time.

Eventually, you’ll get the Hogwarts Legacy In the Shadow of Time quest. You’ll accompany Sebastian to Feldcroft Catacomb, which is in the southern portion of the Hogwarts region. Your go-to spells here will be Incendio and Confringo due to all the spiders, and Accio/Wingardium Leviosa for the puzzles. Likewise, you’ll periodically use Depulso to push debris and ruined doors. Also, while there are several chambers here, we’ll focus primarily on the notable puzzle areas.

Puzzle #1: Bone Doorway

  • There should be a couple of skeleton piles in the main chamber (i.e., one on the altar). You can find more by pulling the handles of each grave.
  • Use Accio/Wingardium Leviosa to bring the skeletons near the torches, which will cause the doorway to fully form.
  • This leads to the next main area, but before that…

Optional: Skeleton Bridge

  • Check the side path that leads down. It’ll take you to a dark chamber filled with Devil’s Snare. If you go near the vines, you’ll lose HP.
  • To avoid any mishaps, shoot your Confringo projectiles or an upgraded Incendio AoE. This will let you pull the handles with Accio.
  • Cross the bridge to reach a bunch of chests. You can also open the gate that leads back to the previous area.

Learn Imperio or nope the heck outta there?

  • Sebastian will talk about another Unforgivable Curse. This time, you can choose to learn the Imperio spell in Hogwarts Legacy via dialogue. Of course, you can also decline, but where’s the fun in that?
  • Suddenly, spiders will start spawning, so make sure you’re ready for a fight.
  • After the bout, you can check the small nook to your right. There’s a Legendary Chest that you can open.
  • Next, head to the left, which will lead to the last chamber.

Puzzle #2: Bone Doorway

  • This is the room seen in this guide’s featured image. As usual, you’ll need to bring bone piles next to the torches. However, two are hidden behind movable walls.
  • To make the walls reveal the bone piles, you’ll need to look at the symbols. For instance, the image below has something that looks like an “S” and below that is a circle. That means you need to pull the handle with the “S” symbol, followed by the handle with the circle symbol.
  • After this, you’ll fight more spiders, and you’ll pick up the relic that Sebastian is looking for.

Although the Hogwarts Legacy Imperio spell is yours (or not), there are still a few tasks remaining. First, you’ll talk to Ominis Gaunt, then you have to leave the dungeon. Once you’re outside, you’ll see that Feldcroft Village is under attack. Get there as fast as you can and take out the goblin troops.

If you chose to obtain Imperio, you can test it for yourself. The spell will only affect one enemy at a time, and they’ll end up attacking their former comrades. You won’t be able to target a mind controlled enemy at all, so you have to wait for the effect to wear off before you can take them out.
