Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak devs join forces with NASA to create Mars colony

Blackbird Interactive are back with a new project following their foray into the Homeworld universe with Deserts of Kharak. This time it’s an experience and not a game.

Blackbird has joined forces with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) to create Project Eagle, an interactive model of a future Mars colony. Located at the Gale Crater near the landing site of the Mars Curiosity Rover, this project is a vision of Mars in 2117, 82.8 Earth years after the first human mission to Mars.

The project will utilise BBI’s in-game lighting and video tech which they say “creates an unparalleled vision of a future on Mars”. This experience will be shown at the D.I.C.E. Summit on Tuesday by JPL’s Dr. Jeff Norris, BBI CEO Rob Cunningham and CCO Aaron Kambeitz.

We’re not sure if this will be made available to mess around in at any point, but based on the video below, future Mars is unsurprisingly going to look a lot like Deserts of Kharak.
