How to beat Hisuian Typhlosion Raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Burns incoming

Typhlosion is the final evolution of the adorable Gen 2 Fire starter, Cyndaquil, and its Hisuian counterpart adds a streak of Ghost into the mix. If you’re struggling with this fearsome foe, let me show you how to beat the Hisuian Typholosion Raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

How to beat the Hisuian Typhlosion Tera Raid

Hisuian Typhlosion shares similarities with Scarlet and Violet’s Skeledirge, being a Fire/Ghost type. This dual typing gives the Pokemon plenty of coverage, along with a few weaknesses we can exploit. Hisuian Typhlosion is weak to Water, Ground, Ghost, and Dark, which gives us plenty to work with.

The 7-Star Raid variant imbues Hisuian Typhlosion with the Fire Tera Type, making its already potent fire attacks even more deadly. Here’s what you’re up against:

Hisuian Typhlosion (Fire/Ghost)

Tera Type: Fire
Ability: Frisk

  • Will-O-Wisp
  • Infernal Parade
  • Sunny Day
  • Flamethrower
  • Focus Blast

Unfortunately for us, Hisuian Typhlosion has a savage moveset that’s designed to stamp out common Raid strategies. This Pokemon typically opens the battle with Will-O-Wisp, which inflicts a burn. Sunny Day is another common starting move that powers up Fire attacks. Pokemon inflicted with a burn do 50% less damage with their Physical Attacks, which is a massive debuff.

In my experience, once Hisuian Typhlosion lands a burn, it likes to spam Infernal Parade. This Fire attack does more damage if the opponent has a status ailment, and you always will as you’ll be burnt.

I used Mew and adopted a support role for this Raid with great success. Here’s what I used:

Mew (Psychic)

Tera Type: Water
Hold Item: Shell Bell

  • Rain Dance
  • Life Dew
  • Mud-Slap
  • Surf

Rain Dance is a powerful answer to Hisuian Typhlosion’s Sunny Day, and Life Dew is a great ability to keep your teammates topped up. In the support role, it’s not your job to deal damage, but Mud-Slap is decent and lowers your opponent’s accuracy.

Naturally, as a support player, you’re at the mercy of your team for dealing damage, but you should comfortably be able to keep your friends alive with this setup.

What Pokemon should I use to beat Hisuian Typhlosion as an attacker?

If you prefer to go on the attack, multiple Trainers have reported Manaphy as a great option. User u/M-Houndoom2 on Reddit detailed this effective moveset:

Manaphy (Water)

Tera Type: Water
Hold Item: Shell Bell

  • Rain Dance
  • Tail Glow
  • Fake Tears
  • Surf

As with the Mew build, Rain Dance takes care of Hisuian Typhlosions Sunny Day. Tail Glow buffs Manaphy’s SP. ATK Stat while Fake Tears debuffs Typhlosions SP. DEF.

With everything in place, Surf spam will finish the job as it’s a Special Attack and is unaffected by burns. Remember to reapply Rain Dance if Hisuian Typhlosion uses Sunny Day during the battle.

Hisuian Tyhplosion is one tough cookie but has one of the hardest counters imaginable in Dachsbun. This strategy was detailed on the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet subreddit and is extremely easy to replicate. Here’s the build:

Dachsbun (Fairy)

Nature: Impish (+Def/-SP. ATK)
Tera Type: Fighting
Ability: Well-Baked Body
Hold Item: Metronome

  • Body Press

You’re reading that right. You can beat the Tera Raid with a single move. Hisuian Typhlosion always prioritizes inflicting a burn, but it doesn’t work against Dachsbun because of its ability. Well-Baked Body grants immunity to fire attacks and turns them into defense boosts.

As Hisuian Typhlosion relies so heavily on the burn debuff, it will spam useless attacks for most of the fight. Body Press is a decent attack and does respectable damage when we Terastalize. Finally, Metronome boosts attack power when the same move is used repeatedly. As we only use Body Press, it’s a no-brainer for the battle.
