How to craft Vile Powder in Terraria

Surely you don't want to expand the Corruption, do you?

Vile Powder is a useful item in Terraria that allows you to spread Corruption and summon the boss for the biome. It also is a useful ingredient. But how do you craft it, and can you make it in Crimson worlds, too?

Getting Vile Powder in Terraria

Vile Powder is available in a Corruption Terraria world. Throwing one will spread Corruption on the natural blocks that it touches. You can also throw it on a penguin, a goldfish, and bunnies into their nasty Corruption Counterparts.

Vile Powder is more commonly used as an ingredient for the Bloody Spine or the Poisoned Knife, the former being needed to spawn the Eater of Worlds boss.

You can find Vile Powder as a drop from enemies, although you can craft it to skip the fighting.

To craft Vile Powder, all you need is one Vile Mushroom, which can be found dotted around the Corruption. They will grow back, so you can wait for more to spawn in if you can’t find any. Simply hit it to break it, and it’ll hop into your inventory.

With an Alchemy Table or Placed Bottle, you can craft the Vile Powder using the Vile Mushroom, where you’ll get 5 of them.

You can also purchase the Vile Powder from the Druid Town NPC for 1 silver coin per pouch. This is pretty expensive, so I’d recommend braving the Corruption to pluck some mushrooms.

Can you make Vile Powder in a Crimson Terraria World?

In Terraria, upon generating a new world, you’ll either contain the Corruption biome or the Crimson biome. Each biome has its own boss and its own enemies and items, although they parallel each other almost perfectly.

The Vile Powder is the Corruption counterpart to the Vile Powder, found in a Crimson world, so it is simply impossible to craft it in a Corruption world as the biome will spawn Vicious Mushrooms, not Vile ones. Not without mods, at least, such as Fargo’s Both Evils, which allows you to spawn a world with both the Corruption and the Crimson.

This means that you won’t be able to craft the Worm Food in hopes of spawning the Eater of Worlds in your Crimson world. You’ll either have to put up with it or generate a new world if you want to face that boss.

Now that you know all there is about the Vile Powder, why don’t you check out the best mods for Terraria?
