Crusader King 3: How to cure and stop Bloody Flux, Measles, and Holy Fire

With the new update for Crusader Kings 3 we have now three new illnesses that can become deadly plagues for your realm. These are Measles (especially deadly to children), Bloody Flux (also known as Dysentery), and Holy Fire (which is Ergotism, a poisoning effect after consuming ergot, a fungi). Now we have all types of medicine and scientific advances to prevent and treat these, but during Medieval times? No luck there, buddy. Don’t get discouraged though, there are still some things we can do to cure and even stop these plagues from spreading and obliterating your realm.

Use your Physician

Having a specialized go-to man to help control the mitigation of plagues will benefit your realm by either preventing or suggesting solutions for an existing epidemic. Your Physician can work in the Control Plagues status. This will increase your Plague Resistance based on your Physician’s aptitude. If things get overboard, however, you can summon your Physician and choose what action to take. You can decide to take a relaxed approach or burn everything to the ground in hopes of getting rid of either of the plagues. Alternatively, you can just do nothing and watch your realm crumble, which can be fun.

Build Hospices and Burial Site

While this is a costly option, building both Hospices to treat and house pilgrims and a Burial Site to, well, bury the dead. Both will help you increase your realm’s Plague Resistance. I recommend building them as soon as possible. Continue to upgrade them later since plagues will start to appear more often well into your game.

Use the “Isolate Capital” or “Enter Seclusion” option

Finally, if things start getting way out of hand in the world, you can choose “Isolate Capital” to completely protect it from the plague, increasing your Plague Resistance. Alternatively, to ensure your life and that of your in-game family, you can use the Enter Seclusion and protect them from the disease. Both of these will impact your stats, with the latter taking a toll on Diplomacy, Martial, Stewardship, Intrigue, and Learning. Desperate times call for desperate measures, after all.

These won’t be the only illnesses to worry about. Make sure to keep an eye on the Black Death and the Plague too. These will also destroy your realm in no time, so work on spread prevention as soon as possible. After all, the future of your realm relies on your decision, so act brave!
