How to dive in Hogwarts Legacy – Guide

Dive, dive, dive!

There’s plenty for a young witch and wizard to do in Hogwarts Legacy. You can capture and train beasts, ride mighty hippogriffs, and more. There’s also a ton of looting to do, from places like sacks and chests, often rewarding you in some sweet new gear to strap on. But do you only find gear in those aforementioned locations? Or can they be, say, dredged up elsewhere? Well, you may be pleased to learn that loot is everywhere, even under the waters. There are places to dive in the world of Hogwarts Legacy, and here’s how you can do it.

Hogwarts Legacy: How to dive deep and collect sunken rewards

To dive is natural in Hogwarts Legacy. Though you may not have experienced it yet before. Traveling through the world and hunting down treasures in dungeons and houses is an open-world RPG staple. But like many other games of the genre, Hogwarts Legacy hides some goodies under lakes. But getting to them isn’t so difficult.

When swimming or flying over water, you may have spotted some bubbles rising to the surface. This is the game’s way of telling you that something is underneath the water. Swim toward the bubbles and hit the action button, which could be either ‘X’ or ‘Square’ depending on your method of controller. Your character will dive down automatically, returning a moment later — hopefully with some good treasure.

What can you find by diving?

In my experience, you can find all kinds of items while taking a dive in Hogwarts Legacy. I’ve pulled up gear such as masks, scarves, and capes, along with one-time use items like Wiggenweld Potions. So far, much of it seems completely random, as is the case with a lot of loot in the game.

There is an early quest you may have missed related to diving. Head to the Lower Hogsfield hamlet south of Hogwarts castle. On a nearby dock stretching over the Black Lake, you can meet up with Grace Pinch-Smedley, who gives you ‘The Lost Astrolabe’ side quest. This acts as a diving tutorial of sorts, though you may have already been performing the action for a while.
