There are a few ways to troubleshoot this particular issue:

  • Move the feed box out into the open.
  • Physically pick up the Pal that isn’t eating with F and set them down next to the feed box. Chances are they’re stuck on an object.
  • Put the Pal in storage and back out so it respawns closer to the feed box.
  • Sometimes, you just have to log in and out of your world to fix the problem.

If Pals keep repeatedly getting stuck being hungry, chances are they keep getting stuck on something in your base. If a Pal is starving, always take note of if they’re always in the same place when you find them. In my case, I eventually realized mine keep managing to get stuck on top of my Statue of Power and don’t have the intelligence to just walk off of it to the ground, forcing me to pick them up and hurl them off of the statue so they run towards the feed box. I love having to do everything around here.

How to cure and prevent Pal sickness

But what about if a Pal is sick? Sickness can be caused by a Pal not eating, but it’s more likely a result of low sanity. Sanity is just as fickle as hunger — you have to build a hot spring for them to relax in, but getting them to relax in there can be another pathing issue and require relocation. Worst-case scenario, pick them up and throw them inside the hot spring yourself.

Most sicknesses in the game are easily cured with Low, Regular, or High Grade Medical Supplies, made from the Medieval Medicine Workbench. Low Grade is made from horns (dropped by Eikthyrdeer, Univolt, Caprity, and Incineram) and berries, curing Overfull, Cold, and Sprain. Regular level is made from ingots (smelted from ore at a furnace), horns, and bone (dropped from Pals such as Vixy and Rushoar), curing Fracture and Ulcer. High Grade has the same ingredients as Regular in slightly larger quantities, curing Weakened and Depressed. None of these are particularly complex recipes, so they’re easy to stock up on and have ready. Just bring the afflicted Pal into your party and give it the medicine it needs.

That’s it for ways to fix base Pals not eating and getting sick in Palworld. Pathing is a bit wonky in Palworld right now, and the hunger mechanic with base Pals suffers for it. Your best bet to minimize this issue is to ensure your base is clear of obstructions and your feed box is close to the berry field out in the open. And to throw them into the hot springs when in doubt. If you need help setting up your Palbox, check out how to move your Palbox and base in Palworld!
