How to fix the ‘challenges not completing’ error in Payday 3

So many issues, so little time.

For Payday 3, the nightmare of server issues looks like it’s finally ending according to this hopeful Tweet. On the other hand, the heist shooter has been hit with more problems, such as ones that impact gameplay and hurt players’ progression. Since the game has a challenge system that helps them level up, having it work is crucial because it makes the player better. However, like many other problems in Payday 3, the challenge system is getting hit with the issue of not tracking your progression. Fortunately, this is a fixable problem and can be done by following the simple steps below. To fix the ‘challenges not completing’ error in Payday 3, this guide will walk you through it.

Payday 3: How to fix ‘challenges not completing’ error

This issue is a sore thumb — when it happened to me, all my hard work wasn’t tracked, and it felt like I was doing all the optional objectives for nothing. However, through the help of Reddit and other sources, I managed to fix the problem… for now. Here are the steps that I used, so they may work for you.

Check out my review for Payday 3, it could help your decision before buying.

One more note, since Payday 3 is on most modern systems, these steps could work on everything.

  • Restart the game: For console users, simply exit the game fully and reload back into Payday 3. On the PC side, exit the game and the platform you have Payday 3 on such as Steam or Epic.
  • Checking the server: As mentioned, Payday 3 has server issues and is an always-online game. So the servers could be having a hard time syncing up the challenges on their end. If that’s the case, checking the servers could give you some answers because it may not even be your fault.
  • Use wired connection/change connection: Like checking the servers, challenges may be slow to track in real time because the servers are being overwhelmed. To combat this, it would be a good idea to have a consistent connection or use a stronger one. This way, the servers might be able to keep up with you.

Worst-case scenario

If the methods above don’t work, you may have to reinstall the game. This is something I recommend doing after you’ve exhausted the other solutions. You may not want to do this step. However, while it can take some time depending on your internet speed, it has a higher chance of fixing most issues. Otherwise, if you don’t, the other option is waiting for a patch or an official solution from Starbreeze.
