Aetherium is a gameplay feature unique to Modern Warfare Zombies that is used to craft Schematics and make your weapons stronger. Here’s how to get and use Aetherium in MWZ.

Aetherium is an Acquisition which is a single-use item that you can find in the Exclusion Zone. Other Acquisitions are Perk-a-Colas, Ammo Mods, and Wonder Weapons — it’s different from Essence. Also, as a quick caveat, I’ll update this article when we have more concrete details about Aetherium and I have hands-on gameplay.

Aetherium, in its Rare, Epic, and Legendary form, can be found anywhere in the Exclusion Zone. When you are on a run, loot everything to try and find Aetherium. But, much like finding Golden Skulls in DMZ, Aetherium is hard to find.

The trick to finding Aetherium is the higher the Threat Zone, the more likely you are to stumble across a rarer piece of Aetherium. However, you run the risk of getting overrun by zombies. If you feel like your current build is ready for the higher Threat Zones, then enter and keep an eye out for Aetherium.

Again, I won’t know for sure until I get my hands on the game, but I’m guessing that you’ll likely be able to pick up Aetherium from downed zombies. I would imagine the boss zombies have a higher likelihood of dropping Aetherium and at higher rarities.

How to use Aetherium in Modern Warfare Zombies

Since Aetherium is an Acquisition, you can only use it if you successfully exfil with it. If you make it out, you can use Aetherium to craft Schematics that specifically make your weapons stronger.

Rare, Epic, and Legendary Aetherium are used to upgrade your Pack-a-Punch weapon level. Apparently, you can level up all your weapons from level one to level two.
