How to get Gun-Butt kills in Modern Warfare 3

No bullets? No problem.

Week 3 of Modern Warfare 3 Season 3 is now live and as per usual, there are brand new Weekly challenges up for players to complete. One of those will have you use your gun in a very primitive but very effective way – and may even get you to chuckle a bit. Here is how to get Gun-But kills in Modern Warfare 3.

Modern Warfare 3: How to get Gun-Butt Kills

If you plan on getting the Week 3 Aftermarket part – the JAK Cutthroat – then going for the Gun-But kills is probably a good idea given how simple it is. You see, Gun-Butt kills are performed by defeating and killing enemy Operators by using the Gun-Butt of your weapons, making them melee kills in essence. So, as long as you equip any Recommended Weapon, then you should be good to go, right? Well, not quite.

You see, if you happen to have the Throwing Knife equipped as your Lethal Equipment, your character will instead use said knife to perform melee kills. These won’t count toward the challenge, so you will have to unequip the Throwing Knife and use other Lethal Equipment in your loadout instead. Now, I don’t know how your character will prefer the arguably slower choice of getting the knife out and stabbing the opponent instead of just bashing their skull with your Gun-Butt, but hey, that’s gaming in a nutshell!

Moreover, if you want to optimize your Gun-But kill, then you can equip the S-37C DL Breacher Device muzzle. This will increase your melee damage, allowing you to kill enemy operators with your Gun-Butt in one single hit instead of the default two. This muzzle is available for multiple weapons and weapon types, but in my case, I used it with my SVA 545 to great effect.

Finally, since this is essentially a melee kills objective, then the most important factor for your success is map size. You can’t expect to land as many Gun-Butt kills in a Ground War map such as Levin Resort as you might get in Shipment – the former will serve for longshot kills, though, which is quite the opposite of what we are attempting to do today. So, just pick the Small Map Mosh Pit and you will have plenty of opportunities to Gun-Butt your way to victory – with a lot of deaths, of course, those maps are chaotic.
