How to get rid of trauma in Aliens: Dark Descent

A good team leader always takes care of their team.

It looks like Aliens: Dark Descent is taking the same approach that Diablo has adopted. Which is by going isometric. With this new view, gameplay can be rather immersive and fun. The single-player strategy game has the potential of being something impressive. This can be attributed to the mechanics that add a level of depth which can make the game a great experience. One mechanic that stands out is the trauma that can affect characters in your squad. They do hamper your goal of slaying the nefarious Xenomorphs, which may slow things down. However, read this guide on how to get rid of trauma in Aliens: Dark Descent, it could just save your life.

Aliens: Dark Descent: How to get rid of trauma

Getting rid of trauma is pretty straightforward, all you need to do is:

  • Go to the Medical Quarters
  • Have access to the Psychiatric Care Unit
  • Make sure at least one Therapy Slot is open
  • Wait for a specific period of time

While this seems pretty easy to do, Aliens: Dark Descent doesn’t do justice to explain this part.

To start, make your way to the Medical Quarters section of your base and look for the Psychiatric Care Unit tab at the top. If you don’t have this sub-menu available, simply play the second mission of Alien: Dark Descent, it should be unlocked after you’ve done that.

Once you’re in the Psychiatric Care Unit section, select whichever character is impacted by trauma of any kind. After you’ve done that, the character will be added to a free Therapy Slot.

All the trauma in the game has different expiration dates. If you select a character with trauma, it’ll show you how much the trauma bars go down per day.

To begin waiting, head back to the Command Deck, and press wait. The option will be at the bottom right corner.

Also, be strategic about the waiting period, and how many characters of your squad are in therapy. Because the longer you wait, the more xenomorph will infest the planet. This in turn may make the game harder to complete.

What does trauma do?

When a character in your party gets hit by this mechanic, they get a negative buff of various kinds such as Clausterphobic. When a squad member is affected by this buff, shelters don’t reduce stress anymore. So this could really impact the squad overall. If you don’t take care of the character’s trauma, they will reach the Terrified stress level, which makes them weaker overall. So it would be in your best interest to take care of your party as the game progresses.
