How to get Star Fragments in Tears of the Kingdom

It's a waiting game.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom brings about many new ways of enjoying the open-world of Hyrule. Whether that’s through the new caves you can find all over the map, new versions of old locations that you know and love, or even just traversing the world in your new hovercraft. One of the carry-overs from Breath of the Wild is the armor upgrade system, where you can upgrade your armor at Great Fairies to give them a higher chance of taking hits from tougher opponents. Some of the armor sets can have real tricky upgrade materials, like the Star Fragments needed to upgrade some armor sets. Here’s our guide on how to get Star Fragments in Tears of the Kingdom.

How to get Star Fragments in Tears of the Kingdom

Star Fragments can be a bit tricky to find in Tears of the Kingdom, with them being mostly random drops. There are ways to manipulate this to our favor though.

Firstly, Star Fragments only spawn at night, and despawn when morning comes. This means that you need to search during the night and no other time of day, which narrows down the search radius massively.

Secondly, you can just sit on top of a big mountain until one spawns. From my personal experience, sitting on top of the highest peaks in Tears of the Kingdom has given me good results on getting Star Fragments quickly. My personal spot to go for this is the Dueling Peaks, as it’s one of my favorite places in the world of Hyrule. But realistically you can go to any high-altitude location you want and just sit there and wait.

The trick is to bring a bunch of wood with you so you can start a fire and rest if nothing spawns for you during one cycle. This can take a while, but it will provide you with results in due time. You’ll probably need a few to upgrade the armor set you need, so prepare to be waiting for a while.

Hopefully with these tips you’ll be able to find yourself Star Fragments in no time.
