How to get the Horror Story auto rifle in Destiny 2

Ironically enough, it's not a horrible gun.

For the last few years of Destiny 2, weapons have come and gone. Depending on how you’re playing, these tools can be powerful and help you stand out since not everyone can get them on time. The Horror Story auto rifle is a great example of that. While it never truly goes away and comes back a few times throughout the year, you might overlook it because it can be a challenge to get. The good news is that the auto rifle is returning for Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost, which kickstarts in a few days, so it could be a good time to attempt to find this gun. Each time the weapon is brought back, Bungie slightly tweaks how to earn the Horror Story. For this year’s Festival of the Lost, this might be the case. However, the consistent part is that you’ll need to play during the event, which starts on October 17th.

Earning this weapon isn’t associated with any mission or bounties, so you’ll need to grind for it. At the time of writing this guide, Bungie hasn’t stated how you can earn the Horror Story. Assuming this year’s event is anything like the last few, you should expect it to be the same. Destiny 2 rarely changes how these events are played out. A few years ago, the event had the Haunted Forest that plays somewhat like the Haunted Sectors. So, one could guess there will be an event like that or the same.

One thing that might not change is earning Cipher Decoders. These can open additional chests that may have better loot. To do so, play the PVP, and when you have one, play the event and reach the end. If you have a Cipher Decoder, you can unlock chests that might have a high chance of giving you the auto rifle.
