How to get the Stealth Meter in Starfield

Let's get stealthy!

The Stealth Meter in Starfield is not immediately available like in other Bethesda games. You may have noticed this when you crouched and expected it to appear. This is because you need a specific skill to enable it. In addition to this new skill requirement, the way the Stealth Meter works has also been changed (but for the better). Here’s how to get the Stealth Meter in Starfied and use it so you don’t get caught with your hands in someone’s pocket!

Here’s how to get the Stealth Meter in Starfield:

  1. Unlock the Stealth skill
  2. Crouch to activate the Stealth Meter
  3. The White Bar will turn Green if you are detected

To access the stealth meter, you must invest one skill point in the Stealth skill located in the Physical tree. Once activated, the meter will appear above the center of the screen while crouching.

The Stealth Meter in Starfield is similar to the ones used in other Bethesda games. It will appear in the top center of your screen and say if you are Hidden or Detected. However, the Stealth Meter differs from other Bethesda games because the Stealth Meter will turn White and say Hidden or slowly turn Green whenever someone detects you. At this point, it will say Detected, meaning someone has seen you.

I found that the Stealth Bar in Starfield is very finicky. What I mean by this is that if there is even a little green, you will be noticed by whoever is around you, which will result in you getting a bounty for any action that requires you to be undetected. In addition, the Stealth Meter will say Hidden even when it is entirely green. If this happens, do not do anything that would get you in trouble. When in doubt, save your game and reload if needed!
