London Fanfest reveals FFXIV Viper job for Dawntrail

Dance with a flurry of blades and strike like a serpent with the newest XIV job.

The Melee DPS job confirmed to be for Dawntrail was revealed in the London Fanfest keynote. Interestingly enough, it’s an original concept for a job, and not tied to an existing Final Fantasy class, the new and original FFXIV Viper job.

Each expansion, there are always two new jobs added for players to instantly pick up. At the Las Vegas Fan Festival, we were told they would be Melee DPS and Magical Ranged, but nothing more. Now a job trailer has dropped, and it’s not quite what everyone speculated. Here’s what we know so far about the FFXIV Viper job.

New Dawntrail Job: Viper

Viper is a dual-wielding job in which the player fights with two sword blades at once. However, as demonstrated in the reveal trailer, they also combine into one blade for a literal double-edged sword.

As explained in the keynote, Viper is meant to be a dual-wielding alternative to Ninja. It is a dexterity-based DPS, meaning it will share Scouting gearsets with Ninja, which is currently by itself in that corner. The way Viper was described in the Keynote, it sounds like it’s a burst damage-focused playstyle of a job. It’s also the job the Warrior of Light has in the trailer, and his outfit is the artifact gear.

As per usual with new jobs, there is no prerequisite class. Viper will start at level 80 and the starting city for the quest is Ul’dah this time around.

Viper is a close-ranged fighting style passed down through the generations in Tural. In addition to combining their blades into one, they are capable of temporarily enhancing themselves with an aura of power. The swift strikes of the dual swords are followed by the mighty blows of the combined weapon to keep the enemy from getting a foothold.

So when Dawntrail drops, you can finally look cool as all hell with dual-wielding swords. This brand-new FFXIV Viper job is off to a great start.
