How to obtain Majora’s Mask in Tears of the Kingdom

It doesn't involve falling moons, thankfully.

As you roam around the Depths of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you will likely discover various clothing items that call back to previous installments in the series. One such cosmetic is Majora’s Mask, the unsettlingly iconic symbol of one of the franchise’s most treasured entries. In Tears of the Kingdom, Majora’s Mask renders you mostly undetectable by various humanoid enemies to compensate for its extremely low defense. Some may find this helpful, but most will probably want this item for the novelty of running around while wearing the mask of one of the series’ most terrifying villains. This guide will go over Majora’s Mask’s location and what you have to do to acquire it.

Getting Majora’s Mask in Tears of the Kingdom

Majora’s Mask serves as the reward for completing the Floating Coliseum, which you can find close to the Great Abandoned Central Mine in the Depths of the southern portion of Central Hyrule. If you would like to learn more details on how to reach the Floating Coliseum, you can check out our guide on the subject.

Accessing this location shouldn’t be too tricky, but the same cannot be said of the gauntlet that awaits within. To earn Majora’s Mask, you will need to defeat five increasingly difficult Lynels back-to-back. From first to last, here is the order of Lynels you face in the Floating Coliseum.

  • Red Lynel with a sword and shield
  • Blue Lynel with a spear
  • White-Maned Lynel with a two-handed longsword
  • Silver Lynel with a sword and shield
  • Armored Silver Lynel with a spiked club

Tips for beating the Lynel gauntlet

As you might imagine, beating all of these Lynels in a row requires both effective preparation and knowledge of each variant. Our guides on the different Lynel variants will give an overview of how to best these fearsome foes.

Additionally, the presence of so many high-health enemies means that you have to bring plenty of strong weapons with their attack power boosted by powerful attachments. Ideally, at least one of those weapons should have some kind of rock attachment, such as a Stone Talus Heart. This will let you break the last Lynel’s armor more easily than you can with bomb flowers.

Also, keep in mind that all of these Lynels come coated in gloom, meaning that they can temporarily cut several hearts off your maximum health with each hit. To help counter this, try and bring several cooked meals that can restore the hearts you lose to gloom. You can make these meals fairly easily by incorporating Sundelions into your dish.

Although general Lynel strategies will work wonders here, remember that you don’t always have to use the riskiest ones. For instance, parrying the two-handed Lynels may be an effective strategy, but if your nerves cause you to mistime your parries, you can always just run away from most of their attacks instead. The only exception might be the running slam attack, so if you can’t land the parry on it, you might want to just sacrifice your shield durability and block it normally.

After defeating all five Lynels, the chest will unlock and you can take Majora’s Mask with you anywhere in Tears of the Kingdom. You also have the added benefit of receiving a ton of powerful drops from the defeated Lynels, so definitely make sure you pick those up before leaving.
