New IL-2 Sturmovik in the works – IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

1C are bringing back the popular IL-2 Strumovik flight series with IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad.

The game is being developed at a new studio which has been specifically setup to handle the new project. The studio comprises of members of 1C’s 777 Studios who worked on Rise of Flight: The First Great Air war.

“1C is proud to take the next step in flight-simulation history with 777 Studios, a company and team that has grown to be one of the best flight-simulation developers in the world and has proven that their attention to detail and product quality speaks volumes about their talent and dedication,” said Nikolay Baryshnikov, VP of 1C Company. “We look forward to bringing a new era of development and spirit of enjoyment to the combat flight-simulation community together.”

The new IL-2 focuses on the Eastern Front conflict between 1942-43 and will feature a single player campaign and multiplayer with “new gameplay modes”. The game is scheduled to be released some time in 2014.

Fans of the flight sim genre will be pleased to see the return of the IL-2 series which has proved highly popular with sim buffs due to the excellent flight model and gameplay.
