Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath server issue report Mortal Kombat Evo 2022

No Mortal Kombat announcement at EVO 2022, says Ed Boon

The warriors will sleep for now.

From August 5 until August 7, the ever-popular Evolution Championship Series fighting game tournament will take place in Las Vegas. Fighting game fans will definitely want to see what kinds of insane feats and intense competition EVO 2022 will bring, but they will also likely enjoy the new live show that Sony will host during the event. Dubbed PlayStation Tournaments: Evo Lounge, this live stream will feature a host of fighting game announcements from prolific companies. Aside from Street Fighter 6, we do not have much information regarding what games will show up at this event, but we do know one thing. According to Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon, no announcements regarding his iconic franchise will make an appearance during EVO 2022.

In a tweet now deleted by IGN, the site expected that the studios behind the Street Fighter, Tekken, Guilty Gear, and Mortal Kombat franchises will make some kind of announcement during Sony’s stream. However, Boon responded to the tweet by stating that Mortal Kombat will not be among the games featured in the show. He went on to say that the show will serve as “Street Fighter and other great fighting games[‘]” time to shine.

Murmurs of a new installment

Mortal Kombat 11, which saw a release back in 2019, currently stands as the latest entry in the series. Since then, Time Warner and Discovery Media went through a merger that led to many fans speculating over Mortal Kombat‘s future. Last August, journalist Jeff Grubb suggested that Mortal Kombat 12 will serve as NetherRealm Studios’ next game due to having a higher likelihood of success than a new Injustice title.

Grubb’s claim, in addition to an apparent leak of Mortal Kombat 12 that came up earlier this year, could very well remain accurate. But as disappointing as some may find it, we will not find out about the potential existence of Mortal Kombat 12 during this weekend’s EVO tournament.
