Early on in the Resident Evil 4 remake, you’ll find a spot to put in a cog in the village mill. The cog isn’t hard to find, but if you find yourself a bit stuck, this guide is going to break down where to find it and how to use it, as well as how to get it where it’s going without taking some serious damage. Your first step is to reach the shut portcullis. Take a right and you’ll enter the mill. Crouch under the C4 and take the ladder upstairs where you’ll see the mechanism is missing a cog.
Head outside and you can head across a walkway and climb through a window into the locked barn or you can drop down to the treasure chest and knock the lock off the door to enter that way. Once you’re inside, you’ll find the cog on a table facing the door leading to the treasure chest. All you have to do is pick it up. Unfortunately, an enemy with a bull for a head will smash his way inside and you’ll need to contend with him.
Find the cog in the village mill in the Resident Evil 4 remake
There are two fairly simple options here. You can either shoot him in the head with your shotgun while moving back toward the treasure chest, or you can head up the ladder and shoot him as he tries to climb it. If you really don’t want to mess with him, lure him upstairs and then jump down before he can reach you. Head back to the mill and duck under the C4 and wait for him to walk into it. Once the other enemies are dispatched, climb the ladder upstairs, put the cog in place, and pull the lever to raise the portcullis.
