Square Enix announces Avengers video game reveal during E3 2019

Although the Avengers may have come to a close in the cinematic space, that doesn’t mean that the journey stops there. Square Enix has been teasing an Avengers-themed title since 2017. However, with that being said, not much else has been shared about the project’s future. Today, Square Enix revealed that it will reveal more about the project (hopefully some gameplay) during its E3 2019 press conference.

Avengers, reassemble?

It’s hard to really piece together where the story takes place within the Marvel universe, let alone the Avengers timeline. In the previous teaser for the game, you can spot images of Iron Man’s open palm and Thor’s hammer (Mjolnir) laying head down. What’s become of the team? Does it align with the events of Infinity War and Endgame?

The long game, not the endgame

The premise, or at least concept, sounds promising. In the description for the video on YouTube, there has at least been some light shed on the details surrounding the game’s development. It reads, “The Avengers project is being crafted by Crystal Dynamics – longtime developers of the award winning Tomb Raider series – in collaboration with lauded Deus Ex developer Eidos-Montréal.” The description also promises a world for gamers to play in for “years to come.” Those are pretty lofty goals, friends.

The Square Enix press conference is taking place on June 10, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. PST during E3 2019. The company found itself inhabiting the time slot previously held by PlayStation. This is the first time since the show started that Sony will not have an official presence at the show with its PlayStation brand.

If you didn’t get the chance to see the original trailer for the game, check out the teaser below. The only known title that has been revealed thus far has been the project’s stand-in name, The Avengers Project. At the time of writing this, the trailer is just shy of 13 million views.
