The Lord Of The Rings Gollum Release Date

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum gets more gameplay footage in story trailer

Look out for some familiar faces.

Out of all the recent video game tie-ins to the Middle-earth universe, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is definitely a strange one. The last time we officially heard about the game was all the way back in July 2022. Of course, since then a new release window was spotted. But now we’ve got another trailer to look at, and this time around there’s a bit more to talk about. In fact, the story trailer for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum gives us the best look at the game we’ve had yet.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum gets a story trailer

Ever since The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was announced, it was clearly different from most other Middle-earth adaptations. For the most part, a lot of interpretations still heavily borrow from the movie trilogy in the early 2000s. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is instead opting to go for a more classic fantasy approach. Almost all of the characters we’ve seen have a cartoony style, and the world surrounding it all is nice and vibrant. Well, it’s as vibrant as you’ll get in Mordor.

The story trailer for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum shows plenty of new scenes from the game. There are even some familiar faces like Gandalf the Grey and Shelob. We also get a look at what Gollum is trying to flee from, which is an army of Orcs. And it’s fair to say that Middle-earth’s main enemies have never felt quite so intimidating. The story being told here is entirely new, similar to Shadow of Mordor and its sequel. So it’ll be interesting to see how it fits amid the rest of Middle-earth’s stories.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum story trailer does give us some more looks at gameplay. And from the trailer shows it looks like there’ll be plenty of sneaking around. But as seen with an encounter against Shelob, there will also be times when Gollum has to flee. The trailer ends with a release window for LOTR: Gollum that simply says 2023. We’ll likely hear more about the game later in the year, perhaps during the summer.
