EA and Mythic’s Warhammer has been delayed more than once and it’s expected to hit shop shelves some time later this year. For some time Warhammer has been touted as one of the MMORPGs that could take on Blizzard’s World of Warcraft but EA are apparently less confident.EA’s CEO John Riccitiello has been quoted on next-gen as saying “Warhammer Online [will be] a strong entry in the MMORPG space,”Riccitiello said at the William Blair & Company’s investor meetingTuesday. “No, I don’t think it’s going to rival WoW, but no one wouldever predict that. But it is a strong game that will … get ourreturns for us. We’re proud of it.”If EA’s CEO is saying that Warhammer is unlikely to take on WoW then you do have to wonder what all the fuss and hype has been about. Perhaps EA are downplaying the game’s potential and playing it safe but you’d think the CEO would be bigging-up the game at an investor meeting. Will WoW still be dominating in 6 months time once Warhammer has been released? At this stage we have to say more than likely, what with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion possibly hitting the shelves in the fourth quarter of this year it’s going to be tough to beat.
