The Tsuchinoko is one of the rarest insects on Dondoko Island. It’s also one of the most valuable. You can find the Tsuchinoko in the Cave, Hills, and Dondoko Farm portions of Dondoko Island.

When you find a Tsuchinoko, you can sell it to Matayoshi for a lot of Dokobucks. As you find more of the same insect, the price it fetches gradually increases. Once you find 10 of the critters, you can sell each one for a whopping 200,000 Dokobucks.

The Tsuchinoko isn’t exciting to look at. It resembles the common black beetle that you see hopping around in the dirt. If you catch one in the right spot, though, you have a chance of getting the Tsuchinoko. In my experience, your odds seem to increase once you upgrade the Bug Net, though that is purely anecdotal. I recommend upgrading all of the equipment as soon as you can, anyway, like the game suggests. You might spend a lot of time on Dondoko Island, so it’s best to have good gear.

With a good net and a lot of patience, head to the Hills or Cave areas. In the Hills, there is a stone path that leads across the center of the plateau. Near the stairs that lead to the plaza area, I sometimes find a rare bug (see the above screenshot). In the Cave area, which you access later in your island exploration, it sometimes appears in the small cave between the Dondoko Meadows and Dondoko Forest areas.

Remember that the bug may not appear every time you visit any of the above areas. For me, it seems to show up roughly one in four times. I occasionally get luckier, but that’s about typical. You can also head to Dondoko Farm and check the upper Plaza area, where the animals sometimes attack. I sometimes find the Tsuchinoko there. In fact, that’s where I found my very first one. When you’re hunting for the first 10 of that insect, make sure to visit all three locations every day, just to improve your odds.
