Why was PewDiePie banned from Twitch? Answered

What caused PewDiePie to be banned from Twitch?

PewDiePie, arguably the most popular video game streamer in the world, was banned from Twitch on May 8 for unknown reasons. Truly; the reasons for PewDiePie getting banned on Twitch are not confirmed, but we have a pretty good idea of why he got banned.

Note: This isn’t the first (or the last) time Pewdiepie has had problems live streaming — cut to the backlash from his racist remarks in 2017.

The story of PewDiePie getting banned on Twitch, explained

PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, gained his incredibly large following of 111 million YouTube subscribers by starting streaming video games back in 2006. PewDiePie is the proud owner of the fifth-most subscribed-to YouTube channel ever and made his return to Twitch back at the beginning of May.

In a controversial move, PewDiePie decided to do a 24/7 stream on Twitch where he streamed his old videos from 2017. And this is most likely the reason Twitch banned PewDiePie. While the videos PewDiePie showed were his own so he should have the right to play them, I guess there are legal reasons why you can’t do that on stream.

In PewDiePie’s response video to getting banned on Twitch, he said, “Twitch, just like YouTube, doesn’t say what made you banned, so I don’t know. I probably shouldn’t have been streaming the videos from 2017.” I think everyone, including PewDiePie himself, knows he got banned from Twitch because he streamed his old videos. PewDiePie will likely not return to Twitch anytime soon, if ever, and can be found active on YouTube.

What is PewDiePie doing now?

Two weeks ago, on June 29, PewDiePie posted a video called “Saying bye for a while now” in which he told the world that he is about to be a father and doesn’t know what life will look like in the upcoming weeks. As we all know, life gets much busier when a new baby enters the family, so it’s not clear when PewDiePie will be back or what will happen next.

For now, we hope he is enjoying his life and that he soon finds a healthy balance between making more videos and being an excellent dad. If you’re looking for another gamer to watch, I recommend checking out Jack Black’s new gaming channel.
