The Verge reports that Youtube will be unveiling plans for paid subscriptions soon. Surprisingly, Youtube plans to make it mandatory for all Youtubers, including Let’s Players, to join in.

There is no way around this. If you do not opt in to Youtube’s subscription program, all your videos will be set to private. The upside is Youtube promises a 55 % cut from those subscriptions, on top of the 45 % they currently make from views.

While we can’t comment on ongoing discussions, giving fans more choice to enjoy the content they love and creators more opportunity to earn revenue are always amongst our top priorities.
