Shadow of the Tomb Raider had yet to reveal where exactly Lara Croft’s new adventure would take her. Today, the Square Enix troop of developers making the game fully unveiled the lost city of Paititi. The geography’s boasted as the “largest hub ever created in a Tomb Raider game.”
It seems as though the city holds more than just being a central hub. Within the city walls, you can “barter” for new outfits and weaponry, along with speaking to individuals there for side missions. There are also promises of challenge tombs and hidden crypts. It is also made up of varying districts, such as the fishing or residential areas. A town square and religious district have also been identified as locations within Paititi. You can see most of this in the walkthrough trailer (below) which runs nearly 10 minutes long.
You can buy stuff from local merchants in Paititi. Lara can choose to speak with them in their native language.
The walkthrough also reveals more details surrounding the gameplay. For example, you can adjust options for exploration and combat. The walkthrough highlights the ability to remove white climb indicators on ledges and other climbable vegetation, providing a more natural feel to the game.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is expected to release on September 14, 2018. It is currently under development by Square Enix, Eidos Montreal, and Crystal Dynamics. Check out some of our team’s thoughts on the version that was playable during E3 2018.
