Labor Day weekend might be the perfect time to give Vermintide 2 a try. Shall we call it a free day weekend? Developer Fatshark has announced that the game will be free on PC via Steam starting today and running until Monday, September 3.
This will be a good opportunity to get into the battle and help the Heroes fend of the Skaven and Chaos hords.-says Martin Wahlund, CEO Fatshark.
What’s a Vermintide?
For the uninitiated, the Vermintide series is a squad-based, online cooperative game. Each character has their own set of unique abilities and weapons. The style of the game is very much akin to the Left4Dead series. This is one of the reasons the first game in the series seemed to draw me in. While I wasn’t familiar with the Warhammer franchise, I did, however, find comfort in the cooperative style and mechanics right from the getgo.
There is more to the free weekend on Steam other than abolishing hordes of Skaven. Both versions of Vermintide 2 will also see a discount during this time. You can pick up the standard version of the game for half-off ($14.99) or go all in on the Collector’s Edition ($22.49).
It isn’t always a Skaven haven
Although the game is free to try, there has been some backlash regarding Vermintide 2’s content packs. Most notably, the frustration has come with the recent release of the Shadows over Bogenhafen DLC.
