Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Has The Most Steam Players In Franchise History

Ubisoft took a gamble with the Assassin’s Creed franchise. It’s been a yearly offering for the past decade or so. It’s had the same formulaic presentation with minor tweaks here and there. Like an annual title such as Madden or NBA 2K, everyone knew what to expect when they bought and played an Assassin’s Creed game.

Then came Origins, which slowly melded with more RPG mechanics. And now, we have Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which fully embraced it. That gamble has paid off, with Odyssey having the highest number of Steam players in franchise history. The data below is based on Steam charts:

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Sees Steam Success

That’s nearly 62,000 concurrent players at its peak, with over 27,000 playing just a while ago. It’s not going to break any all-time records compared to juggernauts like PUBG, Dota 2, or Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. What it sets, however, is a precedent for Ubisoft to focus on what makes Odyssey a success for the franchise.

We’ve already noted how engaging the story and gameplay mechanics are in our review. We’ve also emphasized how gorgeous the game looks and how it performs well on our benchmark. And yes, we’ve even looked at the best ways to kick some ass in Classical Greece in our combat guide. A lot of features in the game show how much the series has evolved. Likewise, we’re seeing how the player base has accepted and praised these changes.

Oh, and if you’re wondering how Assassin’s Creed Odyssey stacks up, we’ve added the Steam chart peak concurrent player records for several other titles in the franchise:

  • Assassin’s Creed Origins – 41,541
  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – 15,996
  • Assassin’s Creed III – 14,913
  • Assassin’s Creed Unity – 5,432
  • Assassin’s Creed Syndicate – 3,634
  • Assassin’s Creed II – 3,582
  • Assassin’s Creed Revelations – 2,727
  • Assassin’s Creed Rogue – 2,361
  • Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood – 2,198
  • Assassin’s Creed – 1,266

We’re hoping that the fan reception to Odyssey sets a trend for Ubisoft to follow. With many game franchises rebooting or reimagining certain mechanics, slowly turning into action RPGs or hybrids of genres, that only means players are more engaged and there’s always something fresh. On that note, check out the developers of Tomb Raider — another franchise which has undergone a transformation — congratulating the team that made Assassin’s Creed Odyssey:
