The bad news is that there is no Whomping Willow tree in Hogwarts Legacy. I spent a few minutes flying around the castle grounds myself to see if this iconic tree was anywhere. Unfortunately, you cannot find the Whomping Willow, but for good reason.

The second book introduced this magnificent tree, which traps Harry and Ron while they take the flying car to Hogwarts. In the next book, you find out that this Whomping Willow actually served a special purpose. It was planted in the 1970s to hide the entrance to the Shrieking Shack. This was the place where Remus Lupin stayed each month on the full moon when he turned into a werewolf.

Seeing as Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the 1800s, there is no reason for the Whomping Willow to be in this game. Although it would have been neat to fly near the Whomping Willow in fear of it swinging its branches at you, lore-wise it wouldn’t make sense. This also goes for the Shrieking Shack, since Lupin and his friends built it 100 years after Hogwarts Legacy takes place. Although the answer to if you can find the Whomping Willow in Hogwarts Legacy is no, there are plenty of other iconic locations to find around the castle and open world.
