Staying ahead of the bugs in DRG: Survivor can be tricky as they quickly get out of hand. The best way to dish out the damage is with an Overclocked weapon. With this in mind, let me show you how to get and use Overclock weapons in Deep Rock Galactic Survivor.
How to Overclock a Weapon in Deep Rock Galactic Survivor
Overclocking is a little unintuitive as you can’t use the bonuses on the same run you unlock the Overclocking feature. To unlock Overclocking, you must rank up a weapon until it reaches level 12.
You can pick a reward each time you level up; weapon-specific upgrades usually increase its rank. You can see these changes underneath the reward effect (pictured above). Cosmetic rewards don’t grant damage bonuses but often give multiple levels as a trade-off.Â
Once your weapon is level 12, it can be Overclocked, but you can’t do this until your next run. Unfortunately, this quirk with Overclocking means some runs feel wasted as you invest in future runs instead of the ones you’re on.
How does Overclocking work in DRG Survivor?
Once you’ve unlocked Overclocking for a weapon, it gains additional properties at levels 8, 12, and 18. These massive changes can do anything from adding elemental effects to piercing damage.
Overclock changes are so dramatic they are essential for winning runs. You’re in a great spot if you manage to Overclock 2 or 3 weapons by the final stage. Just keep in mind that some Overclocks may ruin synergies in your build. For example, if you’ve invested in Kinetic Damage buffs and then Overclock your weapon to deal Electric damage, it won’t get the benefits.
It’s a slog to unlock Overclocking for each gun, but well worth it in the long run. I usually focus on a single weapon at a time, although it’s not always possible with RNG.
