Starfield: Best companions and crew to assign to your outpost

When looking for possible companions to assign to outposts, you need to look at their skills and what they can do to help. Specifically, look for people with Outpost Engineering and Outpost Management skills. The best crew member companions for your outpost in Starfield are Heller, Lin, Rafael Aguerro, and Andromeda Kepler.

Heller

  • Geology: Rank 1
  • Outpost Engineering: Rank 3

Heller has the best Outpost Engineering skill out of all the crew members, so you don’t want to ignore him. With this skill, Heller can research and construct cutting-edge outpost modules. Heller works for Argos Extractors, just like the crew member next in this list.

During the main quest, you’ll eventually be able to recruit Heller once you make it to the quest ‘The Empty Nest’.

Lin

  • Demolitions: Rank 1
  • Outpost Management: Rank 3

In opposition to Heller, Lin has a pretty high ranking in Outpost Management. At this rank, she can place additional Cargo Links, Robots, and crew at your outpost. Lin is the supervisor of Argos Extractors.

Just like Heller, you’ll be able to recruit Lin after ‘The Empty Nest’ quest during the main questline. Having both Heller and Lin at a single outpost will make it a stellar place to operate.

Rafael Aguerro

  • Outpost Engineering: Rank 1
  • Outpost Management: Rank 1
  • Starship Engineering: Rank 2

As the only crew member who has ranks in both Outpost Engineering and Management, you should keep an eye out for Rafael. He serves as the chief engineer of the Nishina Research Station.

Much later in the main story, during a quest called ‘Entangled’, you’ll find Nishina Research Lab. This is when you can recruit Rafael Aguerro, but only depending on the choices you make during this mission.

Andromeda Kepler

  • Aneutronic Fusion: Rank 1
  • Piloting: Rank 1
  • Outpost Engineering: Rank 2

Finally, we have Andromeda, who has the second rank in Outpost Engineering. She’s an NPC you can find in the Broken Spear bar in Cydonia, which is on Mars in the Sol system.

To hire her, she’ll ask for some Credits, but you can Persuade her to halve the price. At Rank 2, Andromeda can research and construct superior outpost modules.
