Three Pals to have on your Base for defense

Here are three of my favorites to have on my base for Palworld defense.

Penking

This absolute unit of a penguin can be found in the northern deserts as a Boss location. Just drop into his arena, get him tired out enough, and bam, into a Pal Sphere. Once he’s on your squad he is a fantastically reliable worker. His performance in many of the necessary base stats already makes him a prime choice for base work.

Once Penking starts leveling up, their defensive capabilities begin to shine. At level 22, Penking develops Cryst Breath which slows and covers groups of enemies causing continuous damage. Later, at level 40, it learns Blizzard Spike which has a huge area of damage — perfect for defending your Palworld base.

Grizzbolt

Grizzbolt is the first boss you will encounter in a tower in Palworld. Capturing it may take a few tries, but it is worth it. Grizzbolt has a unique partner skill in which it deploys a minigun to take down enemies.

You may recognize Grizzbolt from the advertisements, and it’s worth picking up for exactly the reasons you think. The minigun has a fantastic spread and can dispatch enemies quickly. The Partner Skill called Yellow Tank will need to be researched through the Technology tree. It allows Grizzbolt to be ridden, providing amazing Palworld base defense.

Mammorest

Chances are you have already come toe-to-toe with this huge green Mammoth as it lumbers its way around the map. Unsurprisingly, this monster is a fantastic Pal to help you defend your Base. Its size is certainly a contributing factor, but its attacks are also brilliant against raiding groups.

Power Bomb — learned as early as level 15 — is a fantastic area of effect attack that blasts a huge destructive ball. If you build your base properly, this can eliminate entire groups in one fell swoop. Later, at level 30, Mammorest learns Earth Impact that damages everything within its radius.

How to build your base for best defense in Palworld

Base placement and construction are essential for survival in Palworld. The game seems to have no scaling when it comes to raiding, so you need to be prepared for everything.

Best base placement

Around Palworld there are various locations much better suited to defense than others. I would recommend building against a sheer cliff face or ocean to ensure there can be no attacks from one side. If you are also able to find a natural choke point as the entrance to your base, this is also a bonus. Having a natural choke point such as a river or lake will allow you to control the flow of enemies as they trickle in rather than pour in from all sides. If it worked for the 300 Spartans, it’ll work for your Pal base.

Using defensive structures

Various structures in Palworld can help you defend your base. First and foremost are the walls. Similar to my advice on base placement above, you can use these walls to funnel enemies toward their eventual slaughter rather than being attacked from all sides. If you can focus enemies’ paths you can place your base defense Pals in strategic places to intensify damage. Dictating the terms of battle is key.

Use the various defensive structures in Palworld to better your chances against enemies also. The sandbags and towers will work as a first line of defense as you prepare for the attack. Moats, water cannons, and turrets will all help focus fire and bring down invading forces. Remember, the structure is just as important as power when it comes to Palworld base defense. It will only become more important when PvP finally releases.
