How to defeat Mommorest King of the Forest in Palworld

A usurpation for that ages.

Mammorest is a powerful Pal by default in Palworld, but the boss variant is something else entirely. Don’t even think about planning to face it if you’ve just spawned like I tried to. This fight will happen a lot later. Nevertheless, let’s learn how to take Mammorest down.

Preparing to face Mammorest in Palworld

The Roaming Boss Mammorest, King of the Forest, is a level 38 Pal that wonders between Grassy Behemoth Hills and the Plateau of Beginnings. It will be the first Roaming Boss you see, despite there being much easier ones a little further ahead. It’s docile until you provoke it. The marker on your map will give you an up-to-date position.

You will only really be ready to face Mammorest when you’re level 29 at the very, very least. Any of the earlier equipment won’t puncture the beast’s defense and Pals lower than level 29 will have a hard time getting through, too. Mammorest has over 4,000 health, so how long you want to spend fighting this boss is up to you.

Recommended equipment to face Mammorest:

  • Metal Armor
  • Metal Helm
  • Handgun
  • 50x Handgun Ammo
  • Giga Shield

If you can, build and use the uncommon variant of any of the equipment. These schematics can be earned after beating a dungeon or by purchasing one from a merchant. Uncommon variants are more powerful and durable.

It’ll cost 100 Ingots to make all of the equipment above, excluding the ammo costs. So you may want to get started on producing as many Ingots as possible. Having Cattivas on your team increases your carrying capacity, so it may be wise to have a full team to carry as much Ore as you can back to base to minimize travel. Also, for the Giga Shield and any uncommon variants, you’ll need Ancient Civilization Parts, so clear a bunch of low-level dungeons to stock up. High Quality Pal Oil is a drop from a selection of Pals, such as Mammorests, Dumuds, Flamebelles, Gritnales, and many others.

You’ll have unlocked all of these items when you’re level 29, which is why that is the minimum for facing this boss. I’d advise you to keep capturing Pals until you’re only at least five levels or so below him.

Make sure that your Pals are on par with your level, so they’re as strong as they can be. Considering Mammorest is a plant-type, you’ll want to use fire-type Pals or Pals that have fire attacks. Arsox and Katress are pretty good candidates, especially as you can capture the boss variant of Katress for even higher stats.

Make sure to only consider powerful Pals, ones that can only be caught by Giga Sphere or higher. These Pals are inherently more powerful than any other Pal. A level 38 Foxparks, for example, will still be no match at all for Mammorest. You can find these more powerful Pals if you keep heading north. Honestly, any will do, but don’t use ground-types as Mammorest’s attacks will destroy them.

If you are struggling to find a strong fire-type Pal, then maybe you’ll get lucky and come across a Fire Skill Fruit, which will teach any Pal a specific fire attack. That may come in handy.

If you want to make your Pals even stronger, then you can use the Statue of Power or the Pal Essence Condenser to up their stats. I’d recommend you use the Pal Essence Condenser to promote all of your Pals once, then the Statue of Power to upgrade all of their stats by one, just to give you a great edge.

With your equipment and Pals ready and waiting, you can go ahead to tackle Mammorest, King of the Forest head-on.

Fighting Mammorest in Palworld

With the right equipment, you’ll find that fighting Mammorest is rather simple, especially if you heed my advice. I would start by fielding your weakest Pal. If damage is pitiful, then withdraw it and either summon a stronger one or simply leave the battle.

If you leave the battle, level up you and your Pals by at least a couple of levels and maybe use more Pal Souls to upgrade their stats at the Statue of Power. Some Pals are naturally weaker than others, so you may have to swap that Pal out with a better one.

If you’re happy with the damage, then let’s get started.

Mammorest’s move set is this:

  • Power Bomb
  • Grass Tornado
  • Earth Impact
  • Seed Machine Gun
  • Sand Blast

Despite Pals only being able to use three moves at a time, the Mammorest Boss can use more than that, seemingly swapping them in and out of its own volition.

Grass Tornado and Power Bomb are two of its devastating attacks. You will be able to dodge them just fine, but your Pals won’t. For this reason, you can use the unhonourable method of bringing back your Pal into its sphere before the attacks hit them. This saves them from damage and allows you to perform a tactical reposition.

While your Pals and the Mammorest are attacking, you can unload your Handgun right into the Mammorest’s weak spot – it’s head. Keep shooting there for much more damage, and keep an eye out on your Pal.

Keep away to avoid being struck by its Earth Impact and Seed Machine Gun. Earth Impact deals huge damage, and can fully wipe out lower-level players in one hit – even with a shield.

For an even greater tactical advantage, you can deal a decent portion of damage upfront by landing a headshot when Mammorest is asleep. Striking sleeping targets does a lot more damage, like a critical hit, and it’ll be a great way to start the fight. It could just win you the fight if it’s close.

Additionally, for another sneaky move, if you find that Mammorest is so close to defeat, but you die, don’t respawn. Your Pal will continue fighting and dealing damage. You may find that your Pal has what it takes to be your team’s closer. You’ll get all the rewards as if you’d still been alive, even after respawning. Use sound cues to tell when your Pal has won.

Keep all of this in mind when tackling Mammorest, and you’ll be alright. Upon defeating it or capturing it, it’ll drop the same as all other Mammorests: Mammorest Meat, leather, and High Quality Pal Oil. If this is your first time defeating Mammorest, you’ll also receive one Ancient Technology Point.

Using other Mammorests to take down the King

Here are a couple of ideas I had relating to Mammorests when trying to defeat him. You may find these viable.

One tactic you could try is fielding a full team of level 30-something Mammorests. What is the King of the Forest going to do against five other Mammorests? You can find Mammorests in the below locations, and you’ll have to use a Hyper Sphere to catch them.

Considering that high-level Mammorests also occasionally spawn close to the boss, you can antagonize the boss, and guide its attacks into attacking the other Mammorest. They’ll both go into battle with each other, and you’ll be fielding another Mammorest for free. Be careful not to also attack this other Mammorest, however, as then you’ll have to fight two of them, which probably won’t end well.

I’d recommend allowing them to duke it out. The boss will most likely win but will be weakened. Then you can summon your Pals to finish it off.

Capturing Mammorest in Palworld

To capture the Mammorests for your army, or to capture the boss instead of defeating it, you’ll need Hyper Spheres. These are unlocked at level 27, and you’ll need a whole bunch of other resources to start production.

One Hyper Sphere costs three Paldium fragments, three Ingots, 10 Wood, and two Cement. Not too expensive, right? Well, it also requires the Sphere Line Factory to be produced, which is a whole other challenge.

The Sphere Line factory gets unlocked at level 27. It costs 30 Paldium Fragments, 50 Wood, 20 Nails, and 100 Ingots. What’s more, is that you must power it with a nearby Power Generator, which also costs lots of Ingots and requires a Pal that can keep electrocuting it for energy.

Make sure to unlock and begin crafting Cement. Cement is unlocked at level 19 and costs 50 stone, one bone, and one Pal Fluid to make ten. It takes a while to produce, so make sure to start on this early while you go about building the Sphere Line Factory.

Once you’ve spent around 150 Ingots on this production line, you’ll also need some to make the Hyper Spheres. The good thing about the Sphere Line Factory is that numerous Pals can work on it, so these should be produced in no time.

Now that you know exactly how to take down the King of the Forest in Palworld, why don’t you learn of the best early game Pals to collect?
