The Final Shape keeps getting closer, and Guardians will get busy shortly. Here is everything that has been announced regarding the next content release for Destiny 2: Into the Light.

Destiny 2: Into the Light official release date confirmed

The last step before The Final Shape in Destiny 2 is now upon us, and thanks to the official March 14 edition of This Week in Destiny dev blog post, we have an official release date: April 9, 2024. As you probably know by now, the last expansion for Destiny 2, The Final Shape, was delayed from February 2024 to June 2024, leaving a huge gap to cover that would otherwise be filled with a Season.

However, the Season of the Wish was the last in Destiny 2 seasonal content, meaning Into the Light will serve as a preamble to our final journey which will see Guardians follow The Witness and The Traveler through the portal created at the end of Lightfall.

Three Destiny 2: Into the Light livestreams scheduled!

While the information revealed in the TWID was limited, there is some good news for every Guardian waiting for more information on the matter! Bungie will host not one, not two, but three different livestreams that will explain what we can expect from this mini-expansion. These will happen on the following dates:

  • Livestream #1: March 19 (10 AM PT)
  • Livestream #2: March 26 (10 AM PT)
  • Livestream #3: April 2 (10 AM PT)

Now, if we have one takeaway from this announcement, in particular, is that either these livestreams will not be very long, or the amount of content included in Destiny 2: Into the Light will surpass our expectations. And well, they kinda need to after all the controversy Bungie has been facing and the delay of The Final Shape.

What will Destiny 2: Into the Light bring to the table?

Other than the notion that this will be like a prologue for what we will see during The Final Shape and its episodic content, there is very limited information at the moment available for the masses. However, we do have some insight thanks to recent leaks reported by Liz, a known leaker who has successfully shared information regarding Destiny 2 before. Here are some details that will most likely – although not confirmed – be featured in Destiny 2: Into the Light:

  • Into the Light missions will take place on old planets, with a different planet being featured for each week.
  • Weapons belonging to each of these old planets will be reissued and feature new and updated perks.
  • The Recluse submachine gun and the Hammerhead machine gun will allegedly be one of the few weapons that will be reissued.
  • Ornaments will return to the Eververse.

Now, if you ask me, I think we will see something similar to what Riven’s Wishes did after the seasonal story content was over during the Season of the Wish. That is, weekly content and challenges to gain special rewards from years past. And I do think each week we will get to experience some nostalgia missions based on past Destiny 2 content and expansions, as reported by Liz.

It only makes sense since The Final Shape is all about ending the Light and Darkness saga for good, so many goodbyes are in order. I don’t expect this to go overboard with content though since Bungie is pretty much hands-full with The Final Shape, possibly making Into the Light an afterthought – which arguably is. Overall, keep your expectations low, expect some weekly challenges with minor story exposition, and let us all wait for The Final Shape.

Other than the official information provided by Bungie, take every other piece of information reported here with a grain of salt. Thankfully, we are not far from the first official Destiny 2: Into the Light livesteam, so we won’t have to debate much on the matter any longer.
