Helldivers 2 player discovers that even extracting isn’t safe from the Bile Titans

Unsuccessful Extract

Managed Democracy must be protected at all costs in Helldivers 2. However, dying on the mission is to be expected, but once extraction is underway, the danger should be over, right?

Nobody is safe from the Bile Titans

A recent post on Reddit shows a Helldiver making a final leap into the waiting extraction ship, only to be killed as the transport takes off. The culprit? An approaching titan that somehow manages to take one final stab at the Helldiver through the hull of the transport. They die immediately, failing to extract.

Now, although this is funny to see and very much expected from Helldivers 2, it has raised a few good points from the community. Of course, a huge Bile Titan would probably be able to destroy the extract ship, but when this happens, there are no more chances. If you die on the ground, there are respawns. Dying like this results in a failed mission. This kind of points towards it being a – ahem – bug, not a feature.

It has been noted that it isn’t just the Titans that can ruin an extract. Others have experience with the final stage of the mission failing due to the 500KG Bomb, resupplies, and even the flailing limbs of a dead Titan. DepravedMorgath commented, “Nope, Heard stories of people killing their team by a nuke once they all boarded; you are not entirely immune.”Understandably, this is pretty frustrating, especially when the mission is unsuccessful because of it.

A fault, not a feature

Dying in Helldivers 2 is part of the process, but usually, this is a skill issue rather than an unavoidable bug. Annoyingly, the almost perfect multiplayer game is slowed by its endless faults, many of which have been recently fixed. However, this one is frustrating because there is nothing that can be done to avoid it.

Arrowhead Studios could offer two solutions. The first would make extracting ships immune to damage, and the second would allow a downed ship to be called in again. I prefer the second option, as it would mean we would have to ensure the extract is a lot more empty than it usually is when I escape. Luckily, to balance it all out, players have recently noticed that Bile Titans just as capable of friendly fire as the player.
