How to avoid fall damage from Drakes and Griffins in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Unhand me!

The more I play Dragon’s Dogma 2, the more I’m starting to get you can’t just use normal attacks to bring down the larger creatures. If you’ve played games like Shadow of the Colossus, you can probably see those rules apply to Dragon’s Dogma 2.

You can take down beasts in a few ways like climbing. Griffins and Drakes are climbable, but they can fly away while you’re riding them and throw you off. It will help if you read this to learn how to avoid fall damage from Drakes and Griffins in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

I struggled with this because as I would damage the Griffin to stop it from flying away, it would take me along for a ride. Even after realizing fire is its weakness, I still had issues. At a certain point, the creature would throw me off forcing me to die upon hitting the ground. However, I did manage to soften the blow by landing on goblins — but that was pure luck.

Best ways to avoid fall damage

There are a few ways to land safely. Some are harder to do than others but still get the job done.

Mages are quite important. They can heal you and make fighting the larger creatures easier. If you get yeeted off a Drake or Griffin’s back, they may be able to levitate you downwards slowly. This is rather hard to do, I have not tried it myself, but the community has seen some success.

If you don’t want to risk it, you can get a core ability called Steeled Foundation. However, this is limited to the fighting class. When you drop off from a high point, bring your shield out to absorb the damage much like Captain America. This method has worked for me the last time I climbed a Griffin.

Finally, you can aim for the bushes, shallow water, and haystacks. I can’t confirm this method either, but it also looks like it has a success rate for some players. While you’re aboard the Griffin, look out for any bushes or small bodies of water. I wouldn’t recommend haystacks since they’re harder to locate while you’re high up.

Did you know you can also springboard Pawns onto a monster?
