When booting up Baldur’s Gate 3 through the Larian Launcher, you may have noticed a confusing pop-up. Was it titled ‘Data mismatch’, and did it tell you the things it could’ve been caused by? Although the orange exclamation mark symbol can be worrisome, I’ll put your mind at ease. Let me explain how to fix the Baldur’s Gate 3 data mismatch error.

This is quite the common error for many players. In the description of the pop-up, it says it can apparently trigger from corrupt files, unsupported mods, or any unknown data. How you can fix the data mismatch error in Baldur’s Gate 3 is through a few different means, but I should let you know now that it’s usually a harmless notification.

Although this sounds like a serious issue, most of the time you can still play the game easily without noticing anything wrong. Even when you download up-to-date mods like I do—which is why I received the message in the first place—you’ll inevitably see this warning. It may be due to more serious problems, but despite seeing this message, I’ve been able to play my game fine. Otherwise, if you really want to attempt to fix the issue, let me outline some possible solutions.

Ways to fix data mismatch error in Baldur’s Gate 3

  • Uninstall mods: If your mods ruining your game worries you, just remove the files from your mods folder.
  • Replace old mods with updated versions: Make sure to keep track of your favorite mods and when they get an updated version. The latest Baldur’s Gate 3 update may not work well with your old mods.
  • Delete Early Access save files: Larian Studios warned all players who playing during Early Access to get rid of all their old save files, which may cause this error.
  • Verify integrity of game files: On Steam, select the settings icon on Baldur’s Gate 3 in your library, then select ‘Properties’. Under the ‘Installed Files’ tab, select ‘Verify integrity of game files’. This will have Steam check whether you have files missing, or not the right files. It will fix any wrong files in your game.
  • Uninstall and reinstall the game: When in doubt, uninstall and reinstall Baldur’s Gate 3. This is a pretty huge game though, so if you remember it taking a long time to download, you may not want to wait that long again.
