Final Fantasy 16 – how to get the Flametongue sword

The Flametongue sword is a powerful weapon you can access around the time you get a third of the way through the story campaign. You get the Flametongue sword from Blackthorne at the Black Hammer. He can only craft it after you progress far enough in the campaign to access the recipe. You also need to provide the following materials:

  • Meteorite x1
  • Stormcry Sword x1
  • Fire Shard x1

As you collect the above items on your journey, make sure to keep them on hand for when the time to get the Flametongue sword arrives.

Meteorite is a relatively rare crafting material you find at various points in the game. The boss at the end of the Headwind mission dropped two of them when I fought her, as did the boss a couple of missions later. Meteorite has a lot of uses, but make sure to keep at least one in your inventory.

The recipe to craft the Stormcry Sword becomes available once you clear the Awakening mission. It requires the Wind Shard, which you acquire by defeating Garuda.

To acquire the Fire Shard, defeat Ifrit at the end of Buried Memories. By then, you should have the materials but not the recipe. Clear the 24th campaign mission, Righting Wrongs, and you gain the recipe so you can finally get the Flametongue sword.

Final Fantasy 16 is available on the PlayStation 5.
